Offsetting is positive action on climate change

Climate Change is one of the most serious issues facing humanity. We now know that industrial activity over the whole of the industrial era has increased the quantity of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. These gases trap more heat in the atmosphere and promote global warming. Each individual in Canada and the US emits around 5 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year into the atmosphere. If we include all the emissions from industrial activities, the figure is much higher.

Offsetters' carbon offsets are investments in projects that prevent greenhouse gases from being emitted into the atmosphere.

What makes a high quality offset project?

An Offsetters high quality offset project has five (5) key traits:

1. It is “additional”:  Offsetters investments enable greenhouse gas reducing projects that would otherwise not take place. 

2. It meets or exceeds Canadian standards: Our projects meet or exceed  Canadian environmental and social standards.

3. It is easily verified by a third party: Our clients can feel confident that their money is well spent with measurable benefits.

4. It provides lasting environmental benefit: We favour energy efficiency technologies and renewable energy over tree planting.

5. It is socially beneficial:  Offsetters projects bring social benefits as well as environmental gains. This makes sure that there will be a social desire to sustain them in the long run.
